As Susan and I sat on the runway in Manila on our flight back to Palawan after attending the Asia Society’s Young Leaders Summit in India, I got a facebook notification of a message from former Board member and current Development Committee member Katie Berroth. She said “good news follows good news. Check your email.” At that point I didn’t have access to my ROH email, and it was time to shut off my phone for the flight. Susan and I spent the hour-long flight trying to control our excitement at what the news might be.

Upon arriving in Palawan Marcus confirmed our hopes: Barclays Capital had renewed their support for Roots of Health and was awarding us 1.52 million pesos (22,000 GBP). We could barely contain ourselves.

Last year, Barclays Capital made a major donation to Roots of Health that allowed the organization to expand services into a third community site (Unang Lahi), create the College Outreach Program and expand the Vertical Garden program. This new gift is to continue the work that their previous gift began.

What is so meaningful about this grant is the affirmation it signifies from Barclays Capital that they are pleased with the work we’ve done in the last year, and that they believe it is important that we continue to provide these services. It also demonstrates Barclays Capital’s commitment to funding work that improves women’s and children’s health and rights. We are so thrilled to be able to partner with Barclays Capital for another year!
