Go big or go home is an oft-repeated mantra. 2015 is the year that our high school programming is going big. After reaching all the public high schools within Puerto Princesa City last year, we have committed to reaching more young people in rural areas. Thus we have begun exploring new places and testing a pilot program of education delivery outside the city. This week we traveled an hour and a half south outside of Puerto Princesa, to the fishing and farming village of Napsan. Napsan doesn’t have electricity, running water or cell phone signal. Food can be scarce, and indeed teachers at the school told us that most of their students do not eat breakfast. Despite this, the students were enthusiastic about our session and thoroughly enjoyed the workshop we had planned for them. We are delighted that this first foray outside of Puerto Princesa was a success. We plan to improve on and refine our modules and continue to teach in more schools outside the city.
